Blogger's Navbar Search doesn't work - but I know the answer.

So this problem has been ongoing for over a year already and I'm pretty pissed off that Google's Blogger team has not been more diligent in fixing the problem. If you do not know what I am talking about, look up at the very top of this page - that's the navbar.

This problem has affected so many people and I'm one of them. Unfortunately, although Google's Blogger team has said that they will put this as their first priority for year 2010, we have not seen any improvements whatsoever.

Despite all this, I've recently found the answer to this problem... as well as a FIX! I've posted it on Blogger's Help Forum but I don't think any of the Blogger employees has read it yet. If you look on page 5 and beyond, I'm cheeseburgirl. I wouldn't be surprised if they overlooked it either since so many people are just posting up their complain letters to blogger and not "real" answers to the problem.

OK, let's get to the main point. So it all started out as a discovery...

I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not, but I noticed that all the entries that I can search up on my blog, are the same posts that Google Blog Search have indexed. Now let me make it clear: Google Blog Search, is NOT the same as Google Search.

Unfortunately, it seems like Google Blog Search has missed some of the older postings, According to their FAQ, they only index blogs by their site feeds so they "will only include items that have been posted since it started indexing a given blog." They are "working on ways to include older posts as well".

Anyway, before Google Blog Search has indexed my blog, only the 3 most recent posts were search-able using the navbar search function. Now that Google Blog Search has started indexing my blog, the navbar search function can only find the posts that blog search has indexed!

I'll let you check this out yourself....
This is my blog: http://cheeseburgirl.blogspot.com

These are the blog entries that have been indexed from my blog in Google Blog Search:
http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=blogurl%3Acheeseburgirl.blogspot.com&btnG=Search+Blogs

If you search any of the terms that are in those posts, they will show up! (e.g., "hiking", "experience", "blogger", etc.)

However, if you search for the term "hockey" or "nails (which I have written multiple posts about on this blog) using Blogger's navbar search function, you won't be able to find it. Coincidentally, these posts are ALSO *not* indexed by Google's Blog Search.

Now I have noticed that Google Blog Search has been indexing a couple more of my older posts on my other blog lately, so I don't know... maybe the term "hockey" or "nails" will be search-able on this blog one day.

How do I add my Blog to Google's Blog Search?

Go here: http://blogsearch.google.com/ping and submit your blog url (e.g. http://your-blog-name.blogspot.com)

How do I add my OLD posts to Google's Blog Search?

Now I'm not sure about this... I have noticed that Google's Blog Search has been indexing a couple more of my older posts from my other blog into their Blog Search engine. But I don't know if that's because I've been submitting my posts individually or they are doing it on their own. But this is what I do. I hit up Google's Blog Search Ping and submit in the URL to the blog post I want to add (e.g. http://your-blog-name.blogspot.com/2010/08/your-blog-post-title.html). Now keep in mind that it will not get added immediately.

Now isn't that amazing?

I think I deserve something here... LIKE A JOB AT GOOGLE! For all you incompetent Blogger employees, I can't believe you let ME, a girl who doesn't even understand the Blogger infrastructure, to figure out this problem! You all deserve to lose your jobs. Like, seriously.

Hiking for the First (and Last) Time

So I went hiking for the first and last time on Sunday. I seriously hated myself for agreeing to go with my friends. I literally started crying when I was coming down the mountain and bawled my eyes out when I got home because I was in so much pain.

My legs were tired and there were mosquitoes everywhere, but I made it up Lynn Peak. There were a total of 5 people that went. I was probably the last one to make it up to the peak since I did not want to make my friends wait. I wasn't even at the peak for half a minute before they all said, "OK. Let's go back down there are mosquitoes everywhere." I was like "But I didn't even get to take a picture yet!"

Whatever, I'm all for leaving the mountain. In fact I wanted to roll down it just to get out of there ASAP. I think the information desk told us that it was supposed to take us 4 hours in total to hike up and down the mountain. Instead, it took us 5 hours.

I thought going up the mountain was difficult. Boy was I wrong. There were loose rocks everywhere! I did not notice them when I was going up but I definitely felt them as I was going down and it just didn't make it easy. I was slipping and twisting my ankles multiple times as I was going down the mountain.

I was the slowest of everyone and I just wanted to say thank you to Lynn (the mountain was probably named after her) and Dave for sticking by my side even though I was falling over as we were going up *and* down the mountain. Chris and Nancy (Lynn's friends) kept on hurrying us to go faster because it was getting dark and they're afraid that the gates might get locked up before we can get the car out. I really want to get out of there too, but my legs can only move so fast as I do not want to slip and crack my head on any giant boulders.

The park's gates closes at 9:00pm and we didn't make it down until 9:30pm. Luckily, Dave's car did not get locked up. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Chris' car. So he actually had to go back to the park the next day to pick up his car.

Talking about this experience actually brings tears to my eyes because I solely regretted about going. In the end, I came back with one picture that I took once I made it to the peak, sore leg muscles, painful toes and 3 giant mosquito bites on my back.

I don't know if I will ever go hiking again. I'm really ashamed about myself since I probably ruined the experience for everyone.

What a Wonderful Surprise!

So like I said in my last post, I have my graduation ceremony next Friday @ 4pm. A couple days ago, I received an email from the Department of Computer Science at UBC telling me that I've received some kind of award and that an award recognition is going to be held right after convocation (5:00-6:30pm).

I don't know what kind of award this is but anyway, I remember looking through one of my classmate's pictures from last year's graduation and the award recognition that followed right after. One thing that really stuck to my mind was this person who won the Undergraduate TA award got a gold star! I don't know how to explain it, but it looked like a metal Mario star. You know, the one that he eats and gets immunity for like 30 seconds? I really wish I get a gold star this year. I want a Mario star!!!

Also, something that struck my by surprise yesterday was my mother telling me that I got $550 from UBC Computer Science. The whole conversation kind of went like this:
Mom: Hey did you know that you got $550 from UBC?
Me: Uhh... no? What's it for? I haven't even submitted in my timesheet for my TA-duties yet.
Mom: It's from Computer Science.
Me: Uhh... that's not right.
Mom: No. It's from your award.
Me: I GET MONEY?!?! Wow!!! I thought I just get a Mario star!!! Are you sure about that?!?!
And I just continued doubting myself... because the money part was honestly a pretty wonderful surprise.

Bridging the Gap

If you are a consistent reader of my blog, you might have known that there's a gap somewhere in here that doesn't really make much sense. Just last year, I was at UBC studying Computer Science, and now I'm at BCIT???

So, for those who've only recently known me, I am currently in BCIT's Nursing program, following the footsteps of my best friend, Lynn. In fact, I just finished Level 1 (ie. first semester) of BCIT Nursing. Why did I choose nursing? It's actually a very long story and personal story that I don't plan on discussing here, but let's just that life experiences has taken a toll on me.

What did I do before I went into nursing? I was studying Computer Science at UBC. I was alright with computer science. I did what I had to and earned good grades, but deep inside, I know I didn't want to do this for life (possibly from previous co-op experiences) even since after 2nd year. Ironically, I am now back at UBC for the summer working as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the Department of Computer Science. I needed a summer job and strangely enough, I kind of missed programming after a semester without it. Anyway, I didn't know what else I wanted to do, so I stuck with the Computer Science program for another year or so.

Did I manage to go through the rest of my Computer Science program? Yes, yes I did! By the time I decided that I wanted to do nursing as a career, I have already completed 3 years of my Computer Science degree. My mom made a very good point: I've spent 3 years on it already, I might as well finish the program so I have an extra piece of paper to hang on my wall. Otherwise, it will just be wasted efforts and I wouldn't have anything to show for those 3 years of my life.

And so, yes, on May 28th, 2010 at 4:00pm I will be joining the rest of my classmates in Computer Science who are graduating this year to walk across the stage inside the Chan Center and receive my Bachelor of Science. Please feel free to join me!

Shave that Beard!

So yesterday, the Canucks played an awesome away game in Chicago and won with the final score being VAN 4, CHI 1. It looks like Mr. Luongo took my advice from the last blog post and shaved off that cursed beard! Haha!

Step It Up, Boys!

I saw tonight's game, and I gotta say, I cried harder in the inside than I did on Wednesday. I'm pretty new to hockey, but even I can tell that there's something that Chicago is doing right and something that we're not doing, and that's annoying the goaltender. Get in Niemi's face! Be annoying! Throw him off his game! The Canucks were improving on that at the beginning of the game, but they lacked that closer to the end of the second period.

Second, I know that some men are aggressive and such, but like my grandma always says... "smart people use words, dumb people use hands". When you fight with your hands, that's when you get the stupid penalties! Do you realize what Chicago is doing to you guys??? They're egging you on so you will try to beat them up and have the refs send you to the box! Do you think you'll honestly feel better if you had a chance to beat them up, have the refs send you to the box and then have your team get scored on?

And third, the playoff beards are obviously not working out for you guys. Shave them off! Maybe the distraction from always scratching those itchy beards is what's keeping you away from winning these games! Let's be honest, it's obviously not bringing you any luck and personally, I think you can use a change of luck by shaving them off.

I have lots of faith in you boys... DON'T LET ME DOWN!!!

What Would Gaga Do?

I'll admit. I'm a BIIIIIG Lady Gaga fan! I bought this silver nail polish some time ago because I thought I could use it for stamping. Unfortunately, it seems to be too thin to stamp. The first time I applied silver nail polish on my nail, it just looked too strange (like I was a bionic woman or something), so I took it off and did something else. Today, after my last exam this morning, I decided to be adventurous. So, I put on the silver nail polish and left them on!

As I was applying it, it just kept on reminding me of Lady Gaga. So I decided to name this nail art "do" as "What Would Gaga Do?" And so what do you think Gaga would do? Stars? Red stars? I THINK SO!!!

4:30 AM and Cannot Go Back To Sleep

I woke up at 4:30 this morning from one of the most terrible dreams I've had for a long time and couldn't go back to sleep. The dream was of my wedding and it was just so real that I cannot help but kept on thinking about it. I figured I should tell someone before it comes true. Like a lot of other dreams, it was pretty random and choppy, but for the most part, everything flowed together and while I was preparing myself to walk down the aisle, I was even able to "remember" how Hanson proposed, even though it has not happened.

So the dream was like this:
I was at this beautiful house that had a white porch and a giant green backyard where there was a huge gazebo. Unfortunately, it was raining and my guests had to sit outside with umbrellas. The guests were already seated, waiting for the ceremony to start. I was scrambling around trying to gather myself. My hair was undone, I couldn't find my shoes, the tags on my dress were still attached (for those who know me, I don't usually cut off my tags until the last minute). Finally I was able to find my shoes but they were like a size too big and my feet keep on slipping out of them. And I was able to, again, "remember" that they fitted when I tried them on before. Also, I was able to find a pair of scissors to cut off the tags from my dress.

As my flowergirl and bridesmaid walked down the aisle, I was trying to find my bouquet of flowers. I finally found it and it turned out that it wasn't even complete. My bouquet of flowers was literally a styrofoam stick with a couple of leafs stuck on it. So I was like, "screw it! I'm late!" and grabbed my pair of scissors and walked down the aisle with that. At this point, my hair was still undone, but I was like, "It's OK, my hair is kind of short anyway."

I was practically running down the aisle and had to constantly stop and tell myself to slow down. When I got up to the alter/gazebo, I suddenly thought to myself "this is weird... something's missing here" then I remembered, "oh yeah.. my dad was supposed to walk me down the aisle". I turned around and saw him trying to chase after me because I was walking so fast and so eager to get married.

My dad caught me when I was already at the alter and held my hand and Hanson's hand. Hanson, for some reason was sitting in a chair beside the priest while everyone else was standing. Beside him was this Coca-cola candy tree and a mini bowling ball display (this is where the choppy/random part was). I was like, "what are you doing?" He started slurring his words, and going all red. At that time, I realized he was drunk. I was just too embarrassed to go on, and so I just turned around and went back into the house that I came from, locked the door and didn't come back out.

I don't know what happened to the ceremony after that, but the next morning, I was watching TV and they were displaying and explaining the Coca-cola candy tree and mini bowling ball display on the shopping channel. In the afternoon, I decided to give Hanson a call and ask for an explanation for what had happened the day before. How could he do that to me? He even told me he loved me the day before over MSN like he does every night. I got his machine, like many other times I've called him before. His answering machine went something like this: "Hello... I am currently at the Nation's Plaza right now and cannot take your call... Not to say that nothing happened yesterday, but a lot of things happened that was unexpected... Juli and I are having hot, sizzlin' sex right now... no, actually... we're not. All I can say is that Tinkerbell has depleted her love for me."
And then I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. It was more like I was too scared to go back to sleep. Those were the exact words he used for his answering machine. I remember them because I just kept on replaying it in my head when I woke up. The dream was just so real, Hanson was even using big words like, "depleted," that were not in my vocabulary (I had to look up that word when I woke up). Some parts were a little out of the blue, but it doesn't mean that it cannot happen. For example, he has also never called me "Tinkerbell" before, but I think he's in the process of coming up with nicknames for me. Also, who the heck updates their answering machine message like their twitter status by letting people know where they are all the time?

Anyway, I'm glad I got that out of my system and I hope that this will never happen.

Lady Gaga Comic Book

The first Saturday in May each year is Free Comic Book Day (FCBD)! And this year, it just happens to be May 1st, 2010. Two years ago when Hanson first introduced FCBD to me, I was quite disappointed since I didn't know any of the free comics provided except for The Simpsons. I did, however, ended up picking up this comic book called "Owly" that was totally awesome and cute to read. Owly didn't have any writing in it, and Hanson had problems understanding what the comic was about. So I told him the story from front to back using my own words! I felt so proud of myself.

But hey! This year is different. This year, I have something to look forward to. While I was searching randomly on Google instead of studying for my pathophysiology exam, I searched "lady gaga comic book" and check this out. This year, FCBD is giving out LADY GAGA COMIC BOOK FOR FREE! Of course, this is just the preview of it, but still - I'm looking forward to it!

Practice What You Teach!

Last May, I was taking my pre-requisites for nursing at UBC. After school, I asked Hanson to come and pick me up so we can go out because I didn't want to bus 45 minutes to his house. On our way out of UBC, we were stopped by a traffic light on Crown and SW Marine. All of a sudden, we heard something crash into the back of our car. The next thing I saw, a biker tumbled to the front of our car and his bike was left with a wheel bent behind our car. We jumped out of the car to see if he was alright. He was bleeding so we called an ambulance. Many people who were on bikes and a pedestrian stopped by to help. The biker said that he had hit the pedestrian while speeding down the UBC-Highway; he kept on calling him to get out of the way, but the pedestrian couldn't hear him with his headphones on. He was lying on the ground and didn't recall hitting any vehicle before he fell over.

The paramedics, firefighters and policemen arrived. They took down information and took the biker away. Meanwhile, the idiot pedestrian was standing there holding his arm. I asked him, "are you hurt?" and he was like, "yeah, my arm hurts." And I kind of stared at him and went, "well, then why didn't you say anything when all the paramedics were here? Now they're all gone!"

The biker was clearly at fault for everything that happened that day. He was speeding down the highway, and not able to brake in time to avoid the pedestrian (even though the pedestrian was an idiot too); he hit the pedestrian and crashed into the back of Hanson's car, making scratches all over the bumper (which cost over $200 to repair, by the way). Hanson tried to claim his damages from the biker through ICBC but the biker refuses to pay. And to add to that, he's suing the pedestrian because he had a warped crappy bike and a dislocated shoulder after his fall.

We got all the biker's information from the fire department so Hanson can contact him directly and I decided to Google his name just for the fun of it. I suspected he probably worked at UBC since he was biking in that area and UBC has a directory of most (if not all) the staff online. It turns out that he *does* work at UBC. In fact, he's a professor in the Department of Psychology! You'd think he'd have some sense of morality since he was a Psychology professor who teaches "Moral Development" but apparently not!

Be More Assertive!

From the first day of nursing school, this is what they taught us. Nurses have to be assertive. At first I was like, "what the hell are they talking about? I don't want to be aggressive..." It turns out that that's not even what they meant. I think what they mean is that they want us to stand up for what we think is right; not be demanding, but to have principles.

However, I don't want to generalize, but I think it's an Asian thing when it comes to not being assertive enough. When I was younger, I remember that arguments between my parents and myself never ended well. Whenever I say something that disagreed with them, they would say, "you're disrespectful!" (and sometimes "go back to your room!"). And then we shut up and let it go. We (well "I", I guess) were taught be passive and never argue with someone who we believe is in authority.

I haven't blogging much lately because we need to write reflection journal entries for our clinicals at the hospital. Obviously we're not allowed to post those, but it's not like they're of anything interesting to read anyway.

Olympic Mascots: Beatles for The 12-Year-Olds

Today, I managed to get an OK-spot to watch the Mascots on Ice outside the UBC Bookstore on Robson. The mascots came out and everyone was yelling their names. QUATCHI! QUATCHI! MIGA! MIGA! SUMI! SUMI! I overheard someone saying: "They're like The Beatles for the 12-year-olds!" (RINGO! RINGO!).

The show is similar to something you would see at Disney's On Ice, except shorter. Near the end of it, when the mascots were coming around giving the kids a hug before they go back in, I was trying to take as many pictures as possible. I have these large hockey-player-looking guys in front of me blocking my view and my camera and then there was this bald guy's head that was especially shiny.

Kids were pushing and shoving to try and hug/pet the mascots and then I heard this one kid beside me. I looked over and he was carrying his little brother to help him gain a little bit of height so that he can see - and this little kid was pretty short to begin with. He said to his brother, "Can you see? Do you wanna get off now so other people can have a turn to take a look?" and his brother nodded. Such a good kid... I got off too soon afterwards so other people can get a good look.

As you can see, poor MukMuk cannot take part because apparently he's not one of the mascots. He's just a "sidekick". There was this post on Canada.com that I thought was pretty funny and I heard that there was a protest on Tuesday in front of the Art Gallery to free Mukmuk as well. I adopted my very own Mukmuk today at London Drugs (50% off, by the way) and he even came with some mini red mittens!

Here's a picture of Mukmuk waiting for the bus with me and Hanson tonight:

Alex and His Lipstick

Background story behind this chat log: Alex and I were heading to BOOt camp (BOO = Brains of the Operation) for UBC Orientations. I was struggling trying to gather items to dress up like Angelina Jolie because that's who I was "assigned" to dress up as.

(11:56 PM) Juli: I'm gonna go as a normal pregnant woman
(11:57 PM) Juli: I need red lipstick and eyeliner
(11:57 PM) Juli: I'm just gonna draw on myself
(11:57 PM) Juli: Do you have lipstick/eyeliner?
(11:57 PM) Juli: I dunno how to put on eyeliner... :S
(11:57 PM) Alex: err
(11:57 PM) Juli: I might end up blinding myself
(11:57 PM) Alex: Why would I?
(11:57 PM) Alex: hahaha
(11:57 PM) Juli: :p
(11:57 PM) Juli: I don't know
(11:57 PM) Juli: You collect stuff
(11:57 PM) Alex: That... sounds..... creepy
(11:58 PM) Alex: Like i go around collecting girls' makeup
(11:58 PM) Juli: Well remember in high school, when you picked up that girl's pencil, and she's like "that dude just took my pencil!"
(11:59 PM) Juli: That was sooo funny
(11:59 PM) Juli: hahaha
(11:59 PM) Alex: hahahaha
(11:59 PM) Juli: It was in the hallway and she was trying to gather her stuff to go to class
(11:59 PM) Juli: hahaha
(11:59 PM) Alex: Yeah... well she left it on the ground
(11:59 PM) Alex: lol
(11:59 PM) Juli: Finder's keepers I guess
(11:59 PM) Juli: :S
(11:59 PM) Alex: But yeah that's different
(12:00 AM) Alex: I'm not going to go "ooo lipstick" and pick up lipstick off the ground and pocket it
(12:00 AM) Alex: hahahaha
(12:00 AM) Juli: "that dude just took my lipstick!"

I think what's so funny is that I can actually imagine Alex going "Ooo lipstick!" and pocket it... LOL
