Miss and Diss - 2009W

CPSC 313 (Mike Feeley): Mike was a really nice guy. He knew everything he taught in class inside out! He sometimes teaches stuff that is not required for his students to know for exams, but he can get extremely hyped up talking about it. His exams are fair and believed that his students shouldn't be examined under time pressure. If you were under time pressure for the midterm exam and got a bad mark on it, he will give you the benefit of the doubt and allow you to make up for it on the final exam. He gave more than enough time for the final exam (almost 4 hours if you really need it for a 2.5 hour exam). If you're interested in hardware, I'd recommend taking the course with Mike since he can teach you so much more than you are required to know!

CPSC 404 (Laks): This was one of the hardest classes ever. I have never tried this hard to listen in class and not understand a word that he is saying. He doesn't have much of an accent, but his voice just feels like a lullaby most of the time. I ended up having to surf the net throughout most of the class to keep myself awake. For the most part, I needed to learn everything on my own.

PSYC 430 (Sarah Desmarias): One of the best Psychology professor ever! The only thing that bothered me was that she assumed that everyone who was taking her course to be applying for grad school next year and knew little that students can take any upper-level psychology courses after completing PSYC 100. Anyway, her lectures were really enjoyable and kept me interested throughout every 1.5 hours of class every Tuesday and Thursday. In addition, she required her students to write two papers for the course. Overall, the papers are not bad (at least I enjoyed writing it) and the TA (Makenzie) was really helpful.

STAT 302 (Eugenia Yu): I've taken STAT 200 before with Eugenia, and I guess the only difference is that in STAT 302, you have to take your own notes. I'm always scared about making mistakes on the notes when I copy them mindlessly in class, but her notes are pretty clear and easy to understand. I never really needed to read the textbook and is planning on selling it to those who are interested (posting is on Facebook)!
