FREEDOM!!!

We're freeeeeee!!! Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system. I've been free since Tuesday, but to avoid getting my ass kicked by some people who aren't free yet and are still kept hostage at UBC, I decided to say nothing about it on my blog.

On my day one of freedom, I got sick. I had to tutor that night too, so when I got back home, I took a hot shower and then a nap. I felt a little bit better afterwards and headed to "work". I've tutored 3 time this week so far, and tonight will be my fourth night. I love my "job" right now and the reason why I've put "work" and "job" in quotations is because it just doesn't really feel like work or a job. I enjoy being the one who's helping the students than being the student. After all, watching other people suffer is better than suffering myself.

I don't have much plans for the summer. I went to a co-op interview the other day to see whether or not I'm admitted into co-op (work experience program in other words) and the co-op coordinator says that because this would be my last summer if I get admitted into co-op, she advises me to work on some summer projects so I would have something to show employers in the future. I remember Mr. Sak complaining one time about this program that he's using on his computer was slow. If I remember correctly, it helps him organize which student has what book. I said that I would build him another one once I knew how. So I just thought that might be a good starting point. However, I wonder if he still needs it. I haven't had a chance to visit DSS yet, I've been waiting for Lynn and Alex to finish their exams.

Logic Puzzle #2

Here's another cute logic problem that was from my homework. Let's see if you guys can figure this one out!

You are traveling in a country where every inhabitant is either a truth teller who always tells the truth or a liar who always lies. You meet two of the inhabitants of this country, Percival and Llewellyn. Percival says, "At least one of us is a liar". Is Percival a liar or a truth teller? What about Llewellyn? Explain your answer.

Answer: If Percival lied, the both Percival and Llewellyn must be telling the true. Clearly that can't be true since Percival just lied. So Percival told the truth, and is a truth teller. But then, since at least one of them is a liar, Llewellyn must be a liar.

In my opinion, I thought that everyone who answered this logic question in the comments did a very good job and it seems to me that they're all correct! Congratulations! You win..... NOTHING! *Mwahaha*

Miss and Diss - 2006W

Ok everybody! Time for another Miss and Diss, this time for 2005 Winter Semester's 2nd term which I named 2006W instead because let's face it - it's 2006 and we're all growing a year older. I can't believe another term is over... and exams are here again!

CPSC 121 (Patrice Belleville) - CPSC 121 was a hard class. While listening to some of my older peers talk about it, the teachers apparently combined two classes into one, which resulted in CPSC 121 (no wonder it was so hard). Patrice was fairly good at explaining concepts. However, I wish we spent more time on certain topics instead of just skimming through it. Also, the class gave out assignments every week, which was very overwhelming. Hanson has warned me about this teacher because he's had him for some 3rd year course before. He told me that his office was filled with B.O. and it almost made him pass out as soon as he walked into the room. Hanson was right. It does smell bad in there. Talk about lack of deodorant.

CPSC 211 (George Tsiknis) - George was ok, I guess. At least he didn't smell bad. He had this really strong greek accent, I believe, which made him kind of hard to understand. Also, the fact that he spoke so fast didn't quite help either. This class wasn't so hard in terms of the material covered until near the end. I really have to study streams and threads a bit more before the final. George was pretty funny in class. Because our class wasn't very responsive to his questions, George was always asking us whether or not it was because we hated him or something. Poor George; he tried so hard.

ENGL 112 (Lorcan Fox) - I believe I should crown Lorcan Fox to be my favourite teacher of the term. I remember in high school, English was always my worst course. But once I arrived to university, English is like my best course! It's weird. But anyway, I was so reluctant to taking English. However, after getting a mark back for something that we have done in-class, I realized "hey, this isn't that hard!" Lorcan Fox was an interesting teacher. I wanted to take my other English class with him (ENGL 110) during the summer, but his class was the first one that got filled up. So, I was out of luck

MATH 101 (Kalle Karu) - KK wasn't as bad as what Alex said. But I hope I'll never get him again. There were times where it seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. MATH 101 was probably at the same difficulty level as MATH 180. However, I felt that I understood more in MATH 101 despite how my marks don't show it. I've actually failed a couple of quizzes. Dumb as he was, KK made our quizzes out of 5, each mark they took off was 20% and there are no half marks given. It was horrible. I kept on bugging him about it to make the quizzes worth more, but he said that he's making it out of 5 so the TAs don't have to spend as much time marking it. What BS, all the quizzes from the other sections of MATH 101 are out of 10 marks.

Watch out!!

My mom almost killed me yesterday. As most of you know, I have a foldable bike that I store underneath my mom's desk because I need to ride it around campus to get to my classes. Well when I rode my bike to Dempster yesterday, it took me especially more effort to get it up the hill and when peddling, I hear this clinking noise like something was about to snap. At the halfway point, I decided to just get off my bike and see what was going on. I see no loose screws or anything, so I was like, "Oh whatever, I'll fix it when I get back to the office."

So after my first class, I had to ride my bike down hill to Buchanan for English. As I was going downhill, I realized that my brakes weren't working! I was like "Oh, crap!! Move out of the way!!" There were these cars and big trucks going right beside me. Luckily, the slope decreased near the end and eventually the work of gravity and friction helped stop me. I had to write an in-class rhetorical essay for English, and there was no time to lose.

So after English class, I walked my bike back to the office, because I was so scared of riding it. I told my mom about it and then she realized that the cables connected to the bike were all twisted. It happened to be that because the cables where wrapped around too tight when we adjust the handles each morning they got all tangled up and resulted to not being able to press down brakes. I can't believe I amost died because of a careless mistake.
