Oh my gosh! I had the most awesome weekend ever! I came back from camping on Sunday afternoon, but I was just too exhausted to write a blog post. But that's OK, because it was all worth it! Over the weekend, I went camping at Evan's Lake with the UBC Orientations team. For those of you who don't know it, I am a Squad Leader for the upcoming Imagine UBC Orientation! WOOT!
So it was a very bumpy ride on the way there - I almost got sick. 2 hours later, we arrived at a foot of a mountain. The road was all iced up and it was too dangerous for our school bus to go up (yes, we were on a school bus), so we had to hike up the steep hill. Good thing the luggage was taken up by this truck.
Once we got up there and put our luggage in our cabins, our first "Cabin Challenge" was to come up with a cabin cheer! And then after the cabin cheer, there was a skit! I thought I was going to dread the skit because I don't like doing them, but it went a lot better than I thought it would!
Between the cabin challenges, we had workshops on how to be good leader. I must say... it was very inspiring and makes me extremely excited for Imagine Day! There was barely any free time for homework, so I must do some catching up this week. Other cabin challenges included:
- Paper Doll: Create a paper doll that represents UBC Orientation Leaders.
- Best Dressed: Dress up as your famous duo. Some of the costumes were pretty good I must say. Mine was very difficult. Janine and I were supposed to be Baskin Robbins but I think we did a pretty good job for such a difficult one.
- Pudding Drop: Someone lying down, another one standing on a bench above them blindfolded. The person lying down has to instruct the blindfolded person to go left/right, up/down and then drop it into their mouths. The game gets bit messy, but it was so fun to watch!
- Carrot Dips: A carrot is tied to a string, and you have to hang the carrot between your legs. Then, you dip it into a cup of salad dressing that was only about 2 cm filled and then you feed it to someone lying down on their back.
- Push Ball: Put two oranges into a pair of stockings and tie it together on a piece of string and tie the string on your waist. Then, try to push a beach ball with the two oranges by swaying your waist back and forth. It's a natural motion for boys as Robyn says.
You know how back in high school, popular people are usually very snobby and stuff...? At BOO Camp, although you can tell that some people are more popular than others, the line that draws people apart from each other doesn't exist. Everyone is so friendly that it almost seems unreal to me. I made a lot of friends.
On the way back home, we had to walk down the mountain. Ariel and I walked down together. At the beginning of the walk, we were at the front of the pack, not too much later, we were at the back of the pack. We were just there supporting each other in case we slipped (which Ariel did a lot - hehe). Thanks Alex, I'm so glad you made me do this.
