Most people have yet to hear of the news that there was a 28-year-old man in Vancouver that pleaded guilty of beating a 15-week-old puppy to death with a hammer. There are many other stories of animal cruelty across Canada in general.

Marcy Moriarty, the General Manager of Cruelty Investigations for the BC SPCA, and she says the laws for people who abuse animals are not tough enough - not by a long shot. In fact, very few people ever serve jail time and often get slapped with a fine of a few hundred dollars. There was even one case where two guys tied a stray dog to a tree and beat it to death with a baseball bat, but because the dog died quickly it was not considered animal cruelty.
