Olympic Mascots: Beatles for The 12-Year-Olds

Today, I managed to get an OK-spot to watch the Mascots on Ice outside the UBC Bookstore on Robson. The mascots came out and everyone was yelling their names. QUATCHI! QUATCHI! MIGA! MIGA! SUMI! SUMI! I overheard someone saying: "They're like The Beatles for the 12-year-olds!" (RINGO! RINGO!).

The show is similar to something you would see at Disney's On Ice, except shorter. Near the end of it, when the mascots were coming around giving the kids a hug before they go back in, I was trying to take as many pictures as possible. I have these large hockey-player-looking guys in front of me blocking my view and my camera and then there was this bald guy's head that was especially shiny.

Kids were pushing and shoving to try and hug/pet the mascots and then I heard this one kid beside me. I looked over and he was carrying his little brother to help him gain a little bit of height so that he can see - and this little kid was pretty short to begin with. He said to his brother, "Can you see? Do you wanna get off now so other people can have a turn to take a look?" and his brother nodded. Such a good kid... I got off too soon afterwards so other people can get a good look.

As you can see, poor MukMuk cannot take part because apparently he's not one of the mascots. He's just a "sidekick". There was this post on Canada.com that I thought was pretty funny and I heard that there was a protest on Tuesday in front of the Art Gallery to free Mukmuk as well. I adopted my very own Mukmuk today at London Drugs (50% off, by the way) and he even came with some mini red mittens!

Here's a picture of Mukmuk waiting for the bus with me and Hanson tonight:

I wish I knew about the protest because I would have gone! Muk Muk deserves to be titled an official mascot. He is so cuddly!
