If you are a consistent reader of my blog, you might have known that there's a gap somewhere in here that doesn't really make much sense. Just last year, I was at UBC studying Computer Science, and now I'm at BCIT???
So, for those who've only recently known me, I am currently in BCIT's Nursing program, following the footsteps of my best friend, Lynn. In fact, I just finished Level 1 (ie. first semester) of BCIT Nursing. Why did I choose nursing? It's actually a very long story and personal story that I don't plan on discussing here, but let's just that life experiences has taken a toll on me.
What did I do before I went into nursing? I was studying Computer Science at UBC. I was alright with computer science. I did what I had to and earned good grades, but deep inside, I know I didn't want to do this for life (possibly from previous co-op experiences) even since after 2nd year. Ironically, I am now back at UBC for the summer working as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the Department of Computer Science. I needed a summer job and strangely enough, I kind of missed programming after a semester without it. Anyway, I didn't know what else I wanted to do, so I stuck with the Computer Science program for another year or so.
Did I manage to go through the rest of my Computer Science program? Yes, yes I did! By the time I decided that I wanted to do nursing as a career, I have already completed 3 years of my Computer Science degree. My mom made a very good point: I've spent 3 years on it already, I might as well finish the program so I have an extra piece of paper to hang on my wall. Otherwise, it will just be wasted efforts and I wouldn't have anything to show for those 3 years of my life.
And so, yes, on May 28th, 2010 at 4:00pm I will be joining the rest of my classmates in Computer Science who are graduating this year to walk across the stage inside the Chan Center and receive my Bachelor of Science. Please feel free to join me!
