What a Wonderful Surprise!

So like I said in my last post, I have my graduation ceremony next Friday @ 4pm. A couple days ago, I received an email from the Department of Computer Science at UBC telling me that I've received some kind of award and that an award recognition is going to be held right after convocation (5:00-6:30pm).

I don't know what kind of award this is but anyway, I remember looking through one of my classmate's pictures from last year's graduation and the award recognition that followed right after. One thing that really stuck to my mind was this person who won the Undergraduate TA award got a gold star! I don't know how to explain it, but it looked like a metal Mario star. You know, the one that he eats and gets immunity for like 30 seconds? I really wish I get a gold star this year. I want a Mario star!!!

Also, something that struck my by surprise yesterday was my mother telling me that I got $550 from UBC Computer Science. The whole conversation kind of went like this:
Mom: Hey did you know that you got $550 from UBC?
Me: Uhh... no? What's it for? I haven't even submitted in my timesheet for my TA-duties yet.
Mom: It's from Computer Science.
Me: Uhh... that's not right.
Mom: No. It's from your award.
Me: I GET MONEY?!?! Wow!!! I thought I just get a Mario star!!! Are you sure about that?!?!
And I just continued doubting myself... because the money part was honestly a pretty wonderful surprise.

Bridging the Gap

If you are a consistent reader of my blog, you might have known that there's a gap somewhere in here that doesn't really make much sense. Just last year, I was at UBC studying Computer Science, and now I'm at BCIT???

So, for those who've only recently known me, I am currently in BCIT's Nursing program, following the footsteps of my best friend, Lynn. In fact, I just finished Level 1 (ie. first semester) of BCIT Nursing. Why did I choose nursing? It's actually a very long story and personal story that I don't plan on discussing here, but let's just that life experiences has taken a toll on me.

What did I do before I went into nursing? I was studying Computer Science at UBC. I was alright with computer science. I did what I had to and earned good grades, but deep inside, I know I didn't want to do this for life (possibly from previous co-op experiences) even since after 2nd year. Ironically, I am now back at UBC for the summer working as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the Department of Computer Science. I needed a summer job and strangely enough, I kind of missed programming after a semester without it. Anyway, I didn't know what else I wanted to do, so I stuck with the Computer Science program for another year or so.

Did I manage to go through the rest of my Computer Science program? Yes, yes I did! By the time I decided that I wanted to do nursing as a career, I have already completed 3 years of my Computer Science degree. My mom made a very good point: I've spent 3 years on it already, I might as well finish the program so I have an extra piece of paper to hang on my wall. Otherwise, it will just be wasted efforts and I wouldn't have anything to show for those 3 years of my life.

And so, yes, on May 28th, 2010 at 4:00pm I will be joining the rest of my classmates in Computer Science who are graduating this year to walk across the stage inside the Chan Center and receive my Bachelor of Science. Please feel free to join me!

Shave that Beard!

So yesterday, the Canucks played an awesome away game in Chicago and won with the final score being VAN 4, CHI 1. It looks like Mr. Luongo took my advice from the last blog post and shaved off that cursed beard! Haha!

Step It Up, Boys!

I saw tonight's game, and I gotta say, I cried harder in the inside than I did on Wednesday. I'm pretty new to hockey, but even I can tell that there's something that Chicago is doing right and something that we're not doing, and that's annoying the goaltender. Get in Niemi's face! Be annoying! Throw him off his game! The Canucks were improving on that at the beginning of the game, but they lacked that closer to the end of the second period.

Second, I know that some men are aggressive and such, but like my grandma always says... "smart people use words, dumb people use hands". When you fight with your hands, that's when you get the stupid penalties! Do you realize what Chicago is doing to you guys??? They're egging you on so you will try to beat them up and have the refs send you to the box! Do you think you'll honestly feel better if you had a chance to beat them up, have the refs send you to the box and then have your team get scored on?

And third, the playoff beards are obviously not working out for you guys. Shave them off! Maybe the distraction from always scratching those itchy beards is what's keeping you away from winning these games! Let's be honest, it's obviously not bringing you any luck and personally, I think you can use a change of luck by shaving them off.

I have lots of faith in you boys... DON'T LET ME DOWN!!!
!!!~~ GO CANUCKS GO ~~!!!

What Would Gaga Do?

I'll admit. I'm a BIIIIIG Lady Gaga fan! I bought this silver nail polish some time ago because I thought I could use it for stamping. Unfortunately, it seems to be too thin to stamp. The first time I applied silver nail polish on my nail, it just looked too strange (like I was a bionic woman or something), so I took it off and did something else. Today, after my last exam this morning, I decided to be adventurous. So, I put on the silver nail polish and left them on!

As I was applying it, it just kept on reminding me of Lady Gaga. So I decided to name this nail art "do" as "What Would Gaga Do?" And so what do you think Gaga would do? Stars? Red stars? I THINK SO!!!
