I'm Still Alive After Exams

Hey everyone,

I finished my exams on Tuesday and yes I'm still alive (even after exams). I found out my CPSC mark just a couple of days ago, and to be honest, I wasn't very happy about it. It was lower than I expected. But then there's my PHIL mark that made up almost everything. Either way, it's the Christmas Holidays and I don't want to spoil it because of school!

Last Saturday I went to see the dentist, and apparently my wisdom teeth are growing out. It's not quite out and it's still under the gums. They say if the roots of the teeth touches the nerves in my gums, it's going to be a lot of pain. So the dentist suggested me to get to removed. And today, I went to see the guy who removes wisdom teeth and they said that it's fast procedure. I could have done it today, but if I did, I wouldn't be able to eat anything for Christmas!

So we didn't end up getting them out yet. Afterwards, we went to SuperStore since the malls haven't opened yet. It was still really early. So my mom and I shopped for Christmas decorations! We bought these inflatable decorations that you put on your front lawn. One Rudolf popping in and out of the gift box (yes, it's "animated"). And a carousel that is also animated! It's awesome. I picked out the carousel . However, after setting it up and having it set themselves up at night, the carousel was kind of not inflating properly, so my mom and I are going to have to bring it back to SuperStore and exchange for a new one! If you get a chance to come by my house, be sure to turn your heads and look at my lawn!

Miss and Diss - 2006F

I've been so busy this term that I almost forgot that yesterday was the last day of school. And you know what that means! Juli's MISS AND DISS!! Not only is this Miss and Diss keeps a nice log for me of which teacher is good or bad, but it also helps you decide who you would like to teach you for the classes that you want to take too! So here we go:

ASTR 101(Brett Gladman): This class was not what I expected. There was too much reading and the lectures are not really "lectures" they were more like "seminars" because he just shows us some astronomy pictures and talks about it. I had no idea how to take notes for this class. Sure, he was smart, but I don't think he knew the correct way of presenting this type of material to us. This course was just all over the place. The labs were alright, but my lab TA marked a lot harder than the other lab TAs. She was just picky took marks off for the dumbest things. Another thing about this course is that the teacher just talks about the theories and stuff during the lectures and don't do any examples during class, but all the assignments deal with calculations.

CPSC 213 (George Tsiknis): I know I've rated George before, but I feel like I need to rate him again since this is a completely different course. This is the first time that he taught this course, and to be honest, he's not really good at it. He got confused almost everytime he tried to explain a new concept to us. There was only one TA in the lab and I felt that there was not enough. There are these people completing their second degree in computer science (AKA. "TA hoggers") in the lab that just wants the TA to sit beside them, hold their hand, and walk them through the entire assignment.

MATH 200(Kerstin Wielage): Kerstin was really smart, except she makes stupid mistakes at times when she writes her notes on the blackboard because she copies them off of this piece of paper that she brings with her. She's willing to make office hour appointments with you most of the time. The course was kind of confusing itself. But it shouldn't be anything that you have never seen before (differentiation/integration). There were 4 midterms in total, and they take the three best of the four midterms. So it's not too bad in the end.

PHIL 220 (Paul Bartha): The course itself was easy since I have had previous experiences with CPSC 121. This course is called "Symbolic Logic I". I'm guessing there's a II as well. This course was quite easy itself until the second part. It became complicated, but it was still fun. I loved doing the proofs, they were like puzzles that I'd do for fun. The teacher was quite boring though. He presented information that was clear with notes and verbally. He was an extremely good teacher for this course but can put you to sleep by his boring voice.

Hello Kitty is Blogging!

Hello Kitty has a blog (click here)! Apparently, she's been blogging since July 30th, 2004; However, the blog's in Japanese.

I happen to stumble across it this morning while I was looking for Hello Kitty stuff and I found that someone else blogged about it. The press release says that this blog is a joint project between Sanrio and NTT Data, but according to the blog, Hello Kitty is writing it herself. She says that this picture was taken by herself. Maybe that's why she's a bit out of focus. She should have had someone else take the picture for her. Anyway, welcome to blogging Kitty-chan! ^_^

Girlfriend 1.0

Subject: Fw: Upgrade problems

To: The IT manager

Dear Technical Support,

18 months ago, I upgraded to Girlfriend 1.0 from DrinkingMates 4.2, which I had used for years without any trouble. However, there are apparently conflicts between these two products and the only solution was to try and run Girlfriend 1.0 with the sound turned off.

To make matters worse, Girlfriend 1.0 is incompatible with several other applications, such as LadsNightOut 3.1, Football 4.5, and Playboy 6.9. Successive versions of GirlFriend proved no better.

I tried a shareware program, Slapper 2.1, but it had many bugs and left a virus in my system, forcing me to shut down completely for several weeks. Eventually, I tried to run GirlFriend 1.2 and Girlfriend 1.0 at the same time, only to discover that when these two systems detected each other they caused severe damage to my hardware.

I eventually upgraded to Fiancée 1.0, only to discover that this product soon had to be upgraded further to Wife 1.0. While Wife 1.0 tends to use up all my available resources, it does come bundled with FreeSexPlus and Cleanhouse2006.

Shortly after this upgrade, however, I found that Wife 1.0 could be very unstable and costly to run. Any mistakes I made were automatically stored in Wife 1.0's memory and could not be deleted. They then resurfaced months later when I had forgotten about them. Wife 1.0 also has an automatic Diary, Explorer and E-mail filter, and can, without warning, launch TurboStrop and Multi-Whinge. These latter products have no Help files, and I have to try to guess what the problem is.

Additional problems are that Wife 1.0 needs updating regularly, requiring ShoeShop Browser for new attachments and Hairstyle Express which needs to be reinstalled every other week. Also, when Wife 1.0 attaches itself to my BMW hard drive, it often crashes. Wife 1.0 also comes with an irritating pop-up called MotherInLaw, which can't be turned off.

Recently I've been tempted to install Mistress 2006, but there could be problems. A friend of mine has alerted me to the fact that if Wife 1.0 detects Mistress 2006, it tends to delete all of your assets before uninstalling itself.

Help requested, please?

Best Regards

Pain Timeline after Badminton

I played badminton on Saturday. I haven't played badminton in approximately a year and I picked up a raquet again on Saturday to play again. I was so rusty, but that's not the point. After playing on and off badminton at Britannia's Drop-In Badminton for about 4 hours, my legs began to shake. I knew I'd be in so much pain for the next couple of days. So here's a timeline to remind myself what I would need to go through the next time I play badminton for 4 hours after not playing for a year and may it be a lesson to be learned from my pain.

Saturday: played badminton; legs began shaking while standing up (bad sign).

Sunday: cannot get out of bed; have trouble walking on flat floor and tried to refrain from going up and down the stairs; tried to stretch out muscles at night when lying on my bed but failed to do so because it was too tight and I was in too much pain.

Monday: no trouble getting out of bed; have trouble walking on flat floor and going up and down the stairs; must hold on to something otherwise knee will hurt really really badly; cannot squat; cannot stretch; felt handicapped when everyone was staring at me.

Tuesday: no more trouble walking on flat floor; have trouble going up and down the stairs so I had to hold onto rail; cannot squat; still felt handicapped.

Wednesday: still hurts a little bit when going up and down the stairs, but not as handicapped anymore.

Tomorrow: I expect myself to be completely healed by tomorrow so I can go play badminton again on Saturday!!

I now know what they mean when people say that they're "weak in the knees" . So learn from my pain, everybody. Stretch before and after you go exercising (especially when you haven't exercised for a long long time).

Weirdest Conversation that I've ever Overheard

Approximately the same time last year, I over heard the weirdest conversation. It's so weird that I still remember it today. I was walking to my class and I was by the SUB when I passed by this girl who was saying this to her guy friend:

"Oh my god, someone grabbed you in the ass at the party? That's SO hott! I wish someone grabbed my ass at the party."

I don't know what party they're talking about, but I felt awkward... . Like... Who would say that?!

17 days vs. 17 years

So if you don't know already, Hanson and his family went to China (again). This time's not as long as last time's though. Last time, which was also around this time last year, they went to China and Hong Kong for 5 weeks. This time they're only going for three weeks. Part of one week have already gone by and there's 17 more days until he comes back.

And as soon as he comes back, my parents and my brother are going to Hong Kong to attend a wedding. I wish I could go too, but it's exam season and I know that I'd never be able to catch up if I miss classes.

17 to be is a very special number, because that's the age I met Hanson! I've waited 17 years for the perfect guy to come by, what more is another 17 days .

Job Offer from Business Objects

I'm done searching for jobs
and I'm done going to interviews for jobs
(for now).

I got a job offer today with Business Objects! I'm so happy!!! Co-op's been screwing around with my marks lately and I haven't had time to study. I did horrible on my CPSC 213 midterm but now that I know I got a job offer from a company I want to work at, I'm so relieved that I can't feel the horribleness of my midterm.

I had an interview with HSBC on Thursday. I thought that it went pretty well and that I definitely got the job. Then, on Friday, I had another job interview with Business Objects. A couple of days before my interview, Mickey told me that the interview with Business Objects was really hard... so I was like "I'm not gonna get the job anyway, why bother wasting my time and researching on the company....". So then I went to the interview absolutely unprepared. During the interview, I thought it was working out really well, much better than I had expected. However, at the end of the interview, I forgot to ask for their business card to send them a thank you ljavascript:void(0)etter for their time and such. I did so many things wrong, I did not anticipate that they would offer me the job!

On Friday night during one of my family dinners, I began to hesitate. Personally, I preferred Business Objects a lot more. Not only because they have a nice building, but also because I wouldn't have to wear business attire and spend more money on clothes. Clothes that I don't want to wear in the first place. I started to think what I should do if I got the job offer from HSBC first. Should I accept? Or should I decline? If I accept, then there's always that chance that Business Objects might want me afterwards and I won't be able to work at my dream company. If I decline, what if Business Objects doesn't offer me the job afterwards? So I was in this dilemma.

So, in the end, everything worked out fine and I would like to take this moment to say.... "YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Logic Puzzle #4: ERROR

Hey everyone,

I made an error on my Logic Puzzle #4. I feel so embarassed . I put a similar answer on my problem set for this question and I got it wrong. It's arguable though. I still honestly don't believe that it's logically possible for Peter Pan to fly though or Santa Clause to know who's good or bad.

I think the TA was trying to tell me that the class didn't really understand the meaning of "It's logically possible that __________." However, the professor still wanted to mark it. Kind of unfair, but whatever.

There are actually many answers that you can have for this problem, here's one of them:
E = I exist and I don't exist - FALSE
R = It's raining in Vancouver today (October 5th 2006) - FALSE
** I put the date there so people can't argue with me someday later when it does rain **

It's logically possible that E = FALSE
It's logically possible that R = TRUE

Did I not mention that you can also put in two false values and prove that this a non-truth functional statement by having it spit out two different values? Whoops!

Logic Puzzle #4

This question was on my Philosophy 220A's problem set (homework). I thought the question was kind of neat so I decided to share it with you! Now there's no real correct answer to this question. It can be anything as long as you can prove it. So here it is:

Prove that this statement operator is non-truth functional:
It is logically possible that __________.

A truth functional operator is when you plug in a value (True/False) and it would only spit out one answer: either true or false, never both. A non-truth functional statement operator means that you can give it a value (True/False), and it would come out with two possibilities.

So here's a hint to how to find out prove that this statement operator is non-truth functional:
Give it two values, either both true, or both false, not one of each.
So for one of the values, prove it's true.
For the other value, prove that it's false.

For this statement, I believe it's easy to give it a true and prove that it's a true.
N = Kelly is a unisex name. - TRUE
It is logically possible that N. - TRUE

However, it's tricky to plug in a true and have it spit out a false. So here's another way to think of it:
* Find a statement that is true, but not logically possible.
S = Santa knows who's good or bad. - TRUE
It is logically possible that S. - FALSE

So Busy Lately...

I've been so busy lately that I don't even know why I'm writing this entry. To tell people about my sad and busy life I guess? It's only been like a little bit more than a week of school and I'm already behind with stuff (or at least I feel like I'm behind).

Last weekend, I spent 6 hours applying to co-op jobs. Co-op's just been eating up most of my time. Not only that, but while I was messing around with PlacePro last night (the website where we apply jobs at), I somehow changed 3 of my applications to a different portfolio than I wanted it to be. By the way, a portfolio is like this folder that you submit to each different job/company with a different cover letter and so on. I kept on trying to fix it, but it only made things worse. I want to talk to my coordinator about this and I've sent her two emails already, but I don't think she can do anything as well. We'll see. It'd really suck if my 6 hour effort over the weekend didn't do anything for me at all and made me submit the wrong portfolio when I had it at the right one to start with. So technically, it's not my fault that I'm submitting in the wrong portfolio. PlacePro is full of bugs and it's ruining my co-op status.

Lost in Translation

I had a conversation with Alex today, and it went something along the lines of this:
Alex: Hey, where are you?
Juli: I'm at Brock Hall doing math homework - I'm so lost!!
Alex: It can't be that bad o_O.. What are you doing in math?
Juli: Calculus III. 3D stuff
Alex: Geometry in 2D and 3D?
Juli: I don't know... do you consider calculus, geometry?
Alex: Analytic geometry -_-
Juli: Hahaha ok fine.
Alex: * sigh* You don't even know what you're learning... how do you expect to do well in the course?
Juli: Shut up! I've done better than you so far - *sticks out my tongue*
Alex: *Slaps Juli* shush you!
Juli: *cries*
Alex: weakling T_T
Juli: My math teacher isn't very good - she doesn't even know what she's talking about sometimes. She's always like "Ummm..... What's that word...??"
Alex: lolerz
Juli: She's German, I think. She's lost in translation.

The Time of The Month

Dear Kotex,

I recently noticed that the peel-off strip of my pantiliner had a bunch of "Kotex Tips for life" on it. Annoying advice such as:

Staying active during your period can relieve cramps. Avoiding caffeine may help reduce cramps and headaches. Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day to keep you hydrated and feeling fresh. Try Kotex blah blah blah other products

Obviously the person behind this was someone who has never possessed a functioning set of ovaries. Go ahead and tell a menstruating woman TO HER FACE that drinking 6-8 glasses of water will help keep her feeling fresh. See what happens and report back.

I'll wait. While you're at it, dump out the coffee at work and Remove the chocolate from the vending machine. I garan-friggin-tee that the first responders will be females who just ovulated.

Look, females don't need or want tips for living on feminine hygiene products.. Younger girls are already hearing "helpful" crap like that from their elderly relatives. Veteran females have already concocted their own recipes for survival, mainly containing alcohol.

Printing out shit advice while sneaking in ads for the brand THAT WAS ALREADY PURCHASED is just plain annoying, not to mention rude, stupid, and enough to send a girl running to the Always brand.

Mostly we'd like to forget that we even need these products. It's NOT a fun time, but DO NOT try to cheer us up by adding smiley faces or bunnies or flowery cutesy crap to your products or the packaging.

Put the shit in a plain brown wrapper so we can throw It in our carts discreetly and have it blend in among the wine and beer.

There is nothing more annoying than having a blinding pink package announcing your uterine state to everyone in the store.

The ultimate goal of your product should be functional invisibility at every stage, including at the point of purchase.

So take your tips for living and shove them right up your ass. Try drinking six to eight glasses of water to make you feel fresher while you're doing it!

Ovarily Yours,
Miss PMS

SPAM

In one month, I've collected a total of 129 spam emails! Before this, I'd delete spam emails everyday. So let's do the math here

- From July 25th to August 24th, there has been 30 days.
- 129 emails /30 days = 4.3 emails per day!

I hate spam.

I got my LEARNER'S!!!

Hahahaha I think you're probably thinking to yourself, "It's about time!" Well, I thought so too (obviously). After Lynn drove me home all by herself a couple of weeks ago, I had this sudden urge of wanting to get my driver's license! So between then and today, I was studying the driving book for the knowledge test! I don't know why that urge suddenly came. Hanson is always telling me to go get my driver's license, but I just never listen, but just one trip with Lynn changed my mind! She's amazing, I tell you! The funny thing is that when I walked in there and said that I wanted to get my L, the receptionist thought that I was 16 and said that I needed my parents in order to get my L. I feel so young!!! I can't wait until I can actually get behind the wheels.

Watch out for meeeeeeeee!!!

Logic Puzzle #3

This puzzle took me a long time to figure out. However, it's probably one of the best puzzles I've ever done! This logic puzzle is sort of different compared to the previous ones. You might wanna time yourself on this one :P. Good luck and have fun!

There are five houses in a row:

The Englishman lives in the red house.
The Spaniard has a dog.
The man who lives in the green house drinks coffee.
The Ukranian drinks tea.
The green house is just to the right of the white house.
The man who eats Shreddies owns a turtle.
Corn Flakes are eaten in the yellow house.
The man in the middle house drinks milk.
The Nowegian lives in the first house.
The Wheaties eater lives next to the man who owns a fox.
The man who eats Corn Flakes lives next to the man who owns a horse.
The Rice Crispies eater drinks orange juice.
The Japanese eats Special K
The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
Which man owns a zebra?
Which man drinks buttermilk?

$4 is a Lesson To Be Learned

Remember when I said that I was going to buy a 6/49 ticket on my 19th birthday? Well, I never did because everytime I walked by the 6/49 places, I always hesitated because, well, it's $2, and I'm cheap.

Last Sunday, Hanson brought me to play MJ with a bunch of his friends. Of course, knowing me, I don't like to play with real money. Alex, one of his friends felt really lucky since by the end of all the MJ games because he won almost 100% of what we started out with. He said that we should all buy lotto tickets. So we did. We all pitched in $4 and bought 8 tickets. I only paid $2 that night because I didn't have enough, so I still owe Sarah (another one of Hanson's friend) $2.

On Thursday, after the $32 Million jackpot draw came out, my grandpa told me that nobody won the jackpot. By that time, I wanted to cry. After a while, I was like "Oh well, one of those little prizes isn't too bad." But when I saw the numbers that were drawn, I already know that wasn't possible either. I lost faith. I think a one time loss is enough. $4 is a lesson to be learned.

I can't believe I'm in debt. I owe Sarah money!

First Flash Template!

Hi Everybody!

I'M SMRT Productions' website is finally complete with at least one thing under each section. I made my latest addition to the Flash templates yesterday! I decided to change it to templates/widgets since too much flash is not too good (for certain reasons).

I decided to base my first Flash template on Doraemon! My favourite Japanese Anime character since I was a little girl. The flash template is called "Peek-A-Boo" It features doraemon popping his head up once the flash website is loaded.

If you would like to download the template for your own use, please follow the instructions said on this webpage: http://www.imsmrtpro.com/index.php/resources/flash-templates-widgets/doraemon-peek-a-boo/. I hope you like it, and give me back some feedback on it as well if you want to :).

Sorry for the inconvenience if the website isn't currently working, but lately, the server seems to be going on and off on me and for many people. The reason for this is because Koby's house is renovating and it seems like people seems to like kicking the thing around. This will calm down in a couple of days.

Miss and Diss - 2006S

And summer school is finally over. I just finished writing the final exam on Friday. This class is probably going to be one of my lowest marks... but it doesn't matter anymore. It's all over and it's time for another Miss and Diss on this blog!

ENGL 110 (Gillian Jerome) - On the first day of class, it was quite intimidating but I don't remember what she actually did that made it English 110 sound so scary. Because not everybody in the class took English 112, not everybody knows how to do the MLA citations. She believes that English 112 should be the prerequisite of English 110; however, when it comes to writing techniques such as writing "This essay will..." and "I will..." she doesn't want to ever see these in her class. Gillian gives me the impression that she's kind of lazy. She lets us out of class early most of the nights and she didn't even instruct class for the last day. On the other hand, Gillian can be a really cool teacher if she wanted to. There was one class where she decided for us to have class outdoors because it was such a nice day. And on our last day of class, she decided to have a mini potluck party that took up one hour of our lecture time. Speaking of which, ALEX, GIVE ME BACK MY TIMBITS!!!

Lance Bass: I'm Gay.

Yesterday morning, I woke up to Z95.3 at around 8 o' clock. All morning, the two hosts (I forgot their names) was talking about how Lance Bass is gay. As soon as I heard the news, I was like "What?! That can't be!" I quickly got up and looked all over the internet (PerezHilton.com - I'm Gay: Interview, The Forstylocks Highlights) for more information and well... it's true. What a surprising news to wake up to, eh?

I don't know whether I should be happy for him for finally coming out of the closet and admitting to the public that he's gay so that he doesn't have to hide it anymore, or that I should be heart broken. He was my favorite within the band Nsync and I just never even thought that he is gay. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against gay people. And I want to make this really clear before people start assuming that I'm a homophobic again. The reason why I'm heart broken is basically now that I know that he's gay, I can't have him anymore because I'm a girl.

My cousin, Emily and I use to be *crazy* over Lance Bass. I even had the email address LanceLover615@hotmail.com but because you know, people grow up, and I eventually grew out of it as well. Emily and I use to fight over him all the time. She would say that I'm not good enough for him and everything and we'd just continuously insult eachother. Of course, I never win. He was the real reason for why my cousin and I never got a long. And now that he's expressed himself explicitly that he's gay, that just means that we were fighting for nothing all along.

"There's no stars tonight..."

[After walking around at the Chinese Night Market, JULI and HANSON walks back to their car and sits there while thinking of the next place to go. HANSON opens the sunroof leaving the window part of the sunroof unopened. JULI looks up into the sky.]

JULI: There's no stars tonight...

[HANSON looks at JULI funny]: That's because we're under a bridge.

JULI: Heh... ^_^"

Objective "Truth" vs. "Perceived" Reality

We were required to write something like this in my English class as a writing exercise. The question was, has there ever been a time where we were wrong about something, but we didn't know it at first. I thought that this was a funny story, so that's why I decided to post it:

One day, I was arguing with Alex; but then again, we always argue. It was the first day of summer school and we were walking up the stairs to the third floor where our class is held. Alex turned to me and said, "hey, your English 112 class was on this floor!" I replied back that it wasn't and that it was really on the second floor. I got really annoyed with him later on because he kept on repeating it, and I just kept thinking "who would know my schedule better than me".

Right before class the next day, when he got me to show him where my English 112 classroom really was, I realized that it was really on the third floor. I felt really dumb and at the same time freaked out because Alex really does know my schedule better than me.

Manning Park 2006

This year for annual "camping" we went to the Manning Park Resort. I don't think I told everyone this, but Hanson came with us this year too!! I missed last year's trip because I didn't have fun the year before (when we went to Princeton). The reason I went this year was all because I was able to convince Hanson to come with us. However, there were still pros and cons about this year's trip.

When we got to the Manning Park Resort, we thought that our cabins were just as nice as the log houses they had as the resort's welcome center and restaurant. However, our cabin ended up to be on the other side of the 6 lane highway and all the activities such as basketball, volleyball, swimming and tennis were on the side where the welcome center is.

On the first day there, we didn't really do much because we weren't able to find out where our cabin was until Uncle Paul got there. He had all the reservation stuff. So when we got there, we took up all our baggage and unpacked them first. Then we divided into different rooms. The washrooms were really weird. There were 3 floors in total in the cabin, and then 1 washroom per floor. The washrooms were like public washrooms, once you're through the doors, there were stalls.

On the second day, we checked out what there is to do. We went up onto the mountain and looked at scenery. And then we went down to the lake to see what there is to do there and find out the price to rent canoes. However, we didn't go play on canoes until the third day. A group of people went in together for hot pot at night, and they said that because they bought so much stuff, they asked my family including Hanson to join in!

On the third day, I was kind of upset because it seemed like the weekend passed by so fast. We didn't go out onto the lake until later in the afternoon because it was just too hot outside. At first Hanson and I didn't go canoeing because there weren't enough people who were interested. But then afterwards, some people decided to give up their canoe to give everyone a chance to play. At night, after a BBQ dinner, Hanson and I got my dad to drive us over to the other side of the highway to play tennis. However, we were whacking more mosquitoes than tennis balls. At first, we were planning on playing for 1.5 hours, but then we got tired after half an hour, so Hanson and I *ran* back to our cabin across the 6 lane highway.

And today, my parents woke up early to start packing. Then I woke up, brushed my teeth, and then went into Hanson bedroom to wake him up like every other morning we were there. I'm gonna miss these moments and I wish that every morning could be like this.

I posted some pictures in my photo album. Enjoy!

My very first own domain!!

Hi Everybody,

I'd just like to announce that my very first own domain has launched!

It's www.imsmrtpro.com I know, it's really cool isn't it?!

-- Koby, a friend of mine from my mom's office bought it for me as a birthday present! *applause*

Sadly, he's leaving UBC to work at Microsoft next month. There are a lot of people resigning from UBC lately. Averaging out to be one per month. Kinda scary and really sad. But luckily, he said that he'll still help me with homework, so that's a bonus - hehe.

Oh! And he helped host the I'M SMRT Productions website so *applause* the only flaw to it is that if you don't type in "www" in the domain, it takes you to his other website. I think it's his parent's business or something. Not too sure, but whatever. It still works.

Also, I probably won't be posting as much anymore since now summer school for English has officially started for me. It sucks. So much stuff to read. But anyway, yeah! Visit my new very first domain!!

^_^ It's *AWESOME*

From Big Boss to Slave Boy...

I'm talking about Travis Schwantje!! Nono, not the sex slave kind of slave (for those of you who are dirty-minded). Travis is working for his dad at Curb-Ease during the summer this year. My mom wanted to get the backyard done so she could have a flowerbed somewhere by the fence or something, and wanted a curb that neatly separates the grass from the dirt. So my mom called up Curb-Ease. The weird thing about it was that I didn't even tell my mom about this company after Travis told me about it but she just happened to know!

So on Saturday, Travis and his dad came to my house and slaved away. They were down on all fours and made us a pretty curb in our backyard. I woke up late... so by the time I got downstairs, they were already half done. And to be totally honest, I think they did quite a nice job. Very professional I must say.

It's nice to see Travis again and do some catching up for a couple of hours. I recall that he use to pick on me a lot in band class. On Saturday, he finally confessed that it was because I was the easiest to pick on compared to all the other people because I would actually take it personally, or so he says.

I'm staying 18 forever!!

No, that's not it. Yesterday was NOT my birthday! I do not have a birthday this year and I'm staying 18 forever! Hanson took a day off yesterday just to celebrate my (non-)birthday with me yesterday. Hanson arrived at my house at around 10:30 or so. He rang the doorbell and I didn't even hear it! I was still in bed sleeping until Jeffrey came into my room and told me that Hanson came. I jumped up from my bed not because I realized that I slept in, but because Jeffrey scared me. Hanson gave me this hand-crafted 3d paper card that me made with a personal poem written inside. So cute! And a book that teaches the basics of Flash MX. Unfortunately, I dont' think I can make much use of it.

First we went to eat Vietnamese noodles. Then we went to Metrotown. I wanted to find that photo engraving place at Metrotown and yes, we eventually found it. The prices were more expensive than the one at the night market. So I think I'm going to get it at the night market instead. After trying to find that place, we went to Home Outfitters because Hanson had to get a Father's Day Gift for his dad. He was thinking of getting him a Crepe maker. Later, when we were playing around with ice cream scoops, it hit us that Mondo Gelato gives out free ice cream on people's birthdays! And of course, being as Chinese as we are, we're not going to miss out THAT chance!

But before we went to get ice cream, we went to eat dinner first. We went back to Hanson's house and he made me a candle light dinner with Campbell's Chunky Soup! I Love Chunky Soup!! It was soooo romantic! And of course. After dinner, we went to grab our free icecream!! Next year's goal would be to go around to ALL of the other Mondo Gelato places in Vancouver and getting as many ice cream scoops as possible!

So after eating our free ice cream, we went to watch a movie (Disney's Cars) at Silver City. At the door of the theatre, I bumped into Ryan Coleman. And then at the box office I saw Kellie! Wow, what a birthday; I'm seeing everybody today! The movie, Cars, was really good I must say. It's one of those traditional Happy endings by Disney as always, but it was great!! A very touch story.

So that's my (non-)birthday.

GirlSmarts Workshop 2006

It's year 2006 right? For some reason, I thought it was 2007 for a second there. For the last two Saturdays, I've volunteered at this workshop called GirlSmarts Workshop for grade 7 girls. It was quite fun I must admit. The workshop was meant to inspire more girls into computer science. So to do that, we have them build lego robots and then write a program to make them do stuff! The girls looked like they had a lot of fun. And I even made my own lego catepillar!

For the first week, there were only two volunteers including me. By the second week, there were 4 volunteers! Allison, Alicia, Anna and moi! Whoa, I just notice that they all started with A's. But yeah. I have pictures from the second workshop that I will upload into my photo album to remind us all of the good times.

Crazy Asian Mother

The first time I heard about this video was when my cousin was talking about it. At first, I thought it was a flash cartoon video until I actually found and watched it myself. The video is not meant to be racist or anything, so please don't think it is. It's just a really funny video that makes fun of how Asian parents think that school grades are literally *everything*.

Basically, this is the plot of this homemade "movie":

A couple of Asian boys have their report cards mailed to their house today! As many people know, Asian parents work their children very hard and put a lot pressure on them to make them get good grades. In this video, a boy named Eric gets a B+ in English and gets yelled at by his mom. To try and pick up his grades, he and his friends worked on a MacBeth rap to present to their class. Watch this video and see how Eric and his friends gets trained to learn how to rap with style with help from their Filiipno friend.

Personally, I found that the training part was a little boring, but as long as your computer loads the video fast, you can just forward the video to the ending where they finish their rap. Other than that, just to note, I think there are actually two Erics in the movie... One that plays the boy who gets yelled at by his mother (Erick Tsai) , and the other one who's the stubby boy with the crew cut who plays a lot of roles in the movie (whom I actually think is Erick Liang).

If you would like a little preview of it, please look to your right at my Windows Media Player and click on Play! You don't have to tell me that the kid who plays the kid is an idiot/retard because I know that already. Yeah, he ruined the whole movie.....

FREEDOM!!!

We're freeeeeee!!! Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system. I've been free since Tuesday, but to avoid getting my ass kicked by some people who aren't free yet and are still kept hostage at UBC, I decided to say nothing about it on my blog.

On my day one of freedom, I got sick. I had to tutor that night too, so when I got back home, I took a hot shower and then a nap. I felt a little bit better afterwards and headed to "work". I've tutored 3 time this week so far, and tonight will be my fourth night. I love my "job" right now and the reason why I've put "work" and "job" in quotations is because it just doesn't really feel like work or a job. I enjoy being the one who's helping the students than being the student. After all, watching other people suffer is better than suffering myself.

I don't have much plans for the summer. I went to a co-op interview the other day to see whether or not I'm admitted into co-op (work experience program in other words) and the co-op coordinator says that because this would be my last summer if I get admitted into co-op, she advises me to work on some summer projects so I would have something to show employers in the future. I remember Mr. Sak complaining one time about this program that he's using on his computer was slow. If I remember correctly, it helps him organize which student has what book. I said that I would build him another one once I knew how. So I just thought that might be a good starting point. However, I wonder if he still needs it. I haven't had a chance to visit DSS yet, I've been waiting for Lynn and Alex to finish their exams.

Logic Puzzle #2

Here's another cute logic problem that was from my homework. Let's see if you guys can figure this one out!

You are traveling in a country where every inhabitant is either a truth teller who always tells the truth or a liar who always lies. You meet two of the inhabitants of this country, Percival and Llewellyn. Percival says, "At least one of us is a liar". Is Percival a liar or a truth teller? What about Llewellyn? Explain your answer.

Answer: If Percival lied, the both Percival and Llewellyn must be telling the true. Clearly that can't be true since Percival just lied. So Percival told the truth, and is a truth teller. But then, since at least one of them is a liar, Llewellyn must be a liar.

In my opinion, I thought that everyone who answered this logic question in the comments did a very good job and it seems to me that they're all correct! Congratulations! You win..... NOTHING! *Mwahaha*

Miss and Diss - 2006W

Ok everybody! Time for another Miss and Diss, this time for 2005 Winter Semester's 2nd term which I named 2006W instead because let's face it - it's 2006 and we're all growing a year older. I can't believe another term is over... and exams are here again!

CPSC 121 (Patrice Belleville) - CPSC 121 was a hard class. While listening to some of my older peers talk about it, the teachers apparently combined two classes into one, which resulted in CPSC 121 (no wonder it was so hard). Patrice was fairly good at explaining concepts. However, I wish we spent more time on certain topics instead of just skimming through it. Also, the class gave out assignments every week, which was very overwhelming. Hanson has warned me about this teacher because he's had him for some 3rd year course before. He told me that his office was filled with B.O. and it almost made him pass out as soon as he walked into the room. Hanson was right. It does smell bad in there. Talk about lack of deodorant.

CPSC 211 (George Tsiknis) - George was ok, I guess. At least he didn't smell bad. He had this really strong greek accent, I believe, which made him kind of hard to understand. Also, the fact that he spoke so fast didn't quite help either. This class wasn't so hard in terms of the material covered until near the end. I really have to study streams and threads a bit more before the final. George was pretty funny in class. Because our class wasn't very responsive to his questions, George was always asking us whether or not it was because we hated him or something. Poor George; he tried so hard.

ENGL 112 (Lorcan Fox) - I believe I should crown Lorcan Fox to be my favourite teacher of the term. I remember in high school, English was always my worst course. But once I arrived to university, English is like my best course! It's weird. But anyway, I was so reluctant to taking English. However, after getting a mark back for something that we have done in-class, I realized "hey, this isn't that hard!" Lorcan Fox was an interesting teacher. I wanted to take my other English class with him (ENGL 110) during the summer, but his class was the first one that got filled up. So, I was out of luck

MATH 101 (Kalle Karu) - KK wasn't as bad as what Alex said. But I hope I'll never get him again. There were times where it seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. MATH 101 was probably at the same difficulty level as MATH 180. However, I felt that I understood more in MATH 101 despite how my marks don't show it. I've actually failed a couple of quizzes. Dumb as he was, KK made our quizzes out of 5, each mark they took off was 20% and there are no half marks given. It was horrible. I kept on bugging him about it to make the quizzes worth more, but he said that he's making it out of 5 so the TAs don't have to spend as much time marking it. What BS, all the quizzes from the other sections of MATH 101 are out of 10 marks.

Watch out!!

My mom almost killed me yesterday. As most of you know, I have a foldable bike that I store underneath my mom's desk because I need to ride it around campus to get to my classes. Well when I rode my bike to Dempster yesterday, it took me especially more effort to get it up the hill and when peddling, I hear this clinking noise like something was about to snap. At the halfway point, I decided to just get off my bike and see what was going on. I see no loose screws or anything, so I was like, "Oh whatever, I'll fix it when I get back to the office."

So after my first class, I had to ride my bike down hill to Buchanan for English. As I was going downhill, I realized that my brakes weren't working! I was like "Oh, crap!! Move out of the way!!" There were these cars and big trucks going right beside me. Luckily, the slope decreased near the end and eventually the work of gravity and friction helped stop me. I had to write an in-class rhetorical essay for English, and there was no time to lose.

So after English class, I walked my bike back to the office, because I was so scared of riding it. I told my mom about it and then she realized that the cables connected to the bike were all twisted. It happened to be that because the cables where wrapped around too tight when we adjust the handles each morning they got all tangled up and resulted to not being able to press down brakes. I can't believe I amost died because of a careless mistake.

Men.

I got this off someone stranger's blog, so don't blame me if the chinese writing is wrong, because I don't know how to write in chinese. But if you do find any mistakes, send me a message on MSN or something. I just thought this is really funny.

The nice men are ugly.
好男人不帅。

The handsome men are not nice.
帅男人不好。

The handsome and nice men are gay.
又帅又好的男人是同性恋。

The handsome, nice and heterosexual men are married.
又帅又好又不是同性恋的男人都结婚了。

Men who are not so handsome but are nice men have no money.
不是很帅但是很好的男人却没有钱。

The men who are not so handsome but are nice men with money think we are only after their money.
不是很帅但是又好又有钱的男人会认为我们看上的是他们的钱。

The handsome men without money are after our money.
而没有钱但是很帅的男人看上的是我们的钱。

The handsome men, who are not so nice and some what heterosexual don’t think we are beautiful enough.
不是很好但是很帅又是异性恋的男人却嫌我们不够漂亮。

The men who think we are beautiful, that are heterosexual, somewhat nice and have money are cowards.
又好又有钱又是异性恋又觉得我们漂亮的男人却又没胆量。

The men who are somewhat handsome, somewhat nice and have some money and thank God are heterosexual are shy and NEVER MAKE THE FIRST MOVE!
又好又帅又有点钱而且是个异性恋的男人偏偏害羞而且从不采取行动。

The men who never make the first move, automatically lose interest on us when we take the initiative.
那些从不主动的男人一旦我们采取主动就对我们失去兴趣。

NOW...WHO IN THE HELL UNDERSTANDS MEN?
现在。。。。。。到底有谁了解男人这东西?

Happy 19th Birthday, Lynn!

=============================

Juli: I thought that Brussels was in Germany...

Lynn: No, Brussels is in Belgium.

Juli: So Belgium is in Germany?

=============================

*Lynn hands Juli a piece of yogurt granola bar*

Juli: Hey! Is this white chocolate?

Lynn: No, it's yogurt.

Juli: Mmmm, I love white chocolate....

=============================

(In the car, when my mom is driving us back home from the first day of UBC (AKA. Imagine UBC))

Lynn: Haha! Juli remember what the AMS President said? "We're here at UBC to get an education. If you just want a job after you graduate, go to BCIT."

Juli: Uh, Lynn? Both my parents went to BCIT.

Lynn: Oh... I'm sorry! Please still give me rides to UBC.

My Dad: Well, at least we HAVE jobs!

=============================

Juli: Oh my gosh, Lynn! I just realized that I wrote "Happy Birthay" on your locker instead of "Happy Birthday"!

Reading Week Come, Reading Week Gone...

One week was just too short of time to gain back all the sleep that I had missed during this school year. Also, the fact that I haven't done anything during the week doesn't make me feel like I've played hard enough to even out how hard I've worked. Well I guess I shouldn't say that, since I did spend as much time with Hanson as I could. Well, almost. But I didn't see any of my friends over reading week though.

I actually spent some of my time reading over reading week. I don't know if that's what reading week is for OR it's to take a break from reading... I wish it was the second one. Anyway, I have CPSC 211 midterm today and I don't know whether it's actually going to be that hard because I felt like I haven't learned that much in class... However, there's another basketball game tonight. So, at least I get something to look forward to after the midterm.

My cell phone got busted over the break. This sucks! I really liked my phone... It's like my baby. Just one day, I took it out of my bag hoping to load the pictures I took recently from it, and it just... stopped working. I actually wanted to mourn over my cell phone. My grandpa thought that I'd be happy because my cell phone is now busted and my mom would get me a new. He THINKS he knows me well, but the fact is that he doesn't. He doesn't know the deep and meaningful relationship I had with my cell phone. Yeah sure, it's nice to get new stuff, but to be honest, I rather my cell phone didn't die. Rest in peace Motorola V600... rest in peace...

Anyway, I recently saw this on the CosmoGirl magazine's website. It's an internship called Project 2024. CosmoGirl will send 7 girls to New York to work at these really cool companies for 8 weeks. CosmoGirl will pay for their plane ticket to and from New York and also their stay at the NYU (New York University) dormitories. I want to apply; I really do. However, the application is March 4th, and I'm so busy between that time. So I don't think I will have time to get two people to write me a reference letter and also answer a 300 word essay question to include with the application. The application has to be sent through mail. I think that if it was through email, I'd still have a chance. I guess I'll consider applying for it next year or something. I better make a note of this just to remind myself.

Almost a Valentine's Week

So Hanson and I didn't go out for Valentine's day. However, we did go out before Valentine's day and after Valentine's day. That's right. He had a flex day on February 13th and he took a day off for me for February 15!

On February 13th:

Hanson came over in the morning and we started off by watching Sailor Moon. We were planning to bake something for Valentine's day (maybe cookies or cake.. etc). Unfortunately, my house didn't have the main ingredients for baking (flour). My mom threw it away a couple of weeks ago because she found bugs in them. We do have baking soda, but my mom hasn't checked for bugs in those yet... so we couldn't really trust it. Anyhow, so we ended up going to Safeway and buying Pillsbury (Dough Boy) stuff. Fun and Easy! We also bought pizza from Little Ceasar's. We went back home and continued watching Sailor Moon and eating. Then we started making cookies. I made this giant cookie I even took pictures comparing it to Jeffrey's head later.

When Jeffrey came back home, I decided that we can all go out and play basketball at Holly Elementary. However, I forgot that it was really windy outside. it was too windy outside that both Hanson and I came back with a headache and red ears that feel like they were about to fall off.

After resting for a while from basketball, Hanson and I went for dinner. He made reservations at this restaurant called Stone Grill in downtown. It was a really cool place. I get to eat good food AND play with my food! From what the waitress there told me, the stones are heated at a 400C and then food is just cooked right on top! I really like watching it sizzle when I cook.

Anyhow, that pretty much wraps it up for our Valentine's day.

On February 15th:

Almost the same thing happened as February 13th. But instead of watching Sailor Moon, I introduced a new -- well, new to him -- anime called Doraemon. Watching Doraemon reminds me of how much I use to love him when I was a little kid. I like completely forgot. I think I'm going crazy. I LOVE YOU, "ding"!! Ok, I got it out of my system. Yes Ding Dong = Doraemon. They later on changed the name of Ding Dong to Doraemon in the Chinese version and that really pissed me off.

Anyway, for dinner, Hanson and I went to Aberdeen. The crime scene was all cleaned up, nothing to see. Well, it's not like I want to see it anyway. At least I don't think so. Both of us weren't very hungry; we were more tired than anything. So we ate dinner very early, like at 5:45. We shared a plate of baked seafood rice. I love the cheese on top! Afterwards, we just walked around at Richmond Centre. And I guess that pretty much tops it for the day.

My First "Reading Break"

Hey there everyone, I'm finally on my spring "break". It's only one week though - not like the high school two week spring break. I'm just glad that there's no school. But guess what? Even though it's suppose to be my break, I'm actually still doing school stuff. I believe that there are other UBC students who are doing the same thing as I am for reading break. For some reason, this term, I feel like I'm always so behind in all my classes and in a way, I guess I sort of am.

So, for this reading break, I am going to study! First of all, I'd like to catch up with MATH 101. And then probably study for CPSC 211 since I have a midterm on the Thursday after reading break. And then a CPSC 121 midterm after that. Must study!

Other than studying over reading break, I DO have one day where I actually get to have fun! And that is tomorrow! Hanson has a day off tomorrow, therefore we shall celebrate our Valentine's Day tomorrow. It'll be loads of fun! WOOT!

This was a pretty random post, but whatever.

恭 喜 發 財.... Now Give Me 利 是

As most english people have mistaken 恭 喜 發 財 <Gung Hay Fat Choy> as Happy Chinese new year. It actually means to wish someone to get rich and it's usually the first thing someone says to their elders to get red pockets. It's become a typical saying instead of 新 年 快 樂 <Sun Leen Fai Lok> which actually means Happy New Year. Therefore, if you say it, say it right.
As for the title of this entry I'm wishing you to get rich in the following year, and asking them for 利 是 <Lai see> which is the red pocket that everybody talks about. However, you have to pronounce 利 是 correctly or else it will sound like the term, "accidentically pooing". Most Chinese people will know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, here are some other terms that people might say during the Chinese New Year season:

心 想 事 成 <Sum Seung See Sing>
Wishes that you'll get whatever your heart desires.

身 體 健 康
<Sun Tai Geen Hong>
Wishes that you'll stay healthy.

學 業 進 步
<Hok Yeep Jun Bo>
Wishes that you'll improve in your school endeavor.

龍 馬 精 神
<Long Mah Jing Sun>
Wishes that you'll be as alert as dragons and horses.

Note: The pronunciation I've put with the Chinese terms is in Cantonese English pronunciation because I don't know how to speak Mandarin...

Logic Puzzle #1

I got this question on one of my Computer Science assignments. Hanson's actually asked me this question before. I thought it was kind of neat. You try and solve it now. Have fun!

Three logicians are each wearing a black hat or a white hat, but not all white. Nobody can see their own hat. However A can see the hats of B and C, and B can see the hats of A and C. C is blind. You go and ask them one by one in order A, B, C, whether they know the color of their own hat. A answers "No". B answers "No". Then C answers "Yes". Explain how this is possible.

Answer: Since A answered "no", not both of B and C have white hats (if they had, then A would had known his own hat was black, since not all hats are white). Now, if C's hat were white, then B (knowing that she and C can not both have white hats) would have known she had a black hat. Since B does not know, this must mean that C's hat is black.

Jello Tong Yuen... YUMMY!

Welcome back to school...... NOT!! Well, not for me anyway! New classes new people, I don't know anybody in some of my classes, it's really sad. Now I know what it felt like for Tim to go to a new school when we were all in grade 9.

Any how, I decided that I wanted to experiment something with cooking before we get into the busy season of midterms and such. For those of you who don't know what tong yuen is, it's actually these glutinous rice balls made from glutinous rice flour, not the actual grains of rice. It's served as a dessert before special Chinese occasions as a way to represent that family and friends will be together for the following year etc. Well, that's the gist of it anyway. Tong can be cooked plain or with filling inside like black sesame or red bean paste.

Earlier during Christmas Holidays, I learned to make tong yuen from my granny. I learned how to make the plain ones at first and then cook them in syrup, but then I thought that was too plain so I decided to plant something new and different inside. I thought that Jello wasn't such a bad idea, except that I was scared that when I implant it in, it would become mush because I've squeezed it too hard. So what I did was freeze it.

On Friday, after watching "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" at the theaters Hanson and I went home and made tong yuen. It wasn't so bad at first, the frozen jello was sitting nicely inside the rice dough and everything. We made exactly 10, so 5 each. However, we were kind of slow with the implanting and the jello inside the dough was starting to melt, so it was sort of leaking out.... The bottom was starting to become soggy, so we had to boil water and cook them quickly.

I was trying to fix them so i kept on pinching them... not only did it not help, I actually made a hole in one of them. It was only a tiny hole so i threw it in the boiling water anyway. In the end, I gave all the "imperfect" ones to Hanson and I ate all the "perfect" ones. It didn't taste bad, but because the dough part didn't have much taste to it and there was no syrup, it was kind of bland. Maybe I will put the tong yuen in juice next time.

Happy One Year Anniversary to Me and Hanson ^_^

Because Hanson had to work today, we decided to celebrate our anniversary yesterday. It wasn't as much of an anniversary; it was more like just another date. He wanted to go watch the 4th Harry Potter movie, but I was kind of reluctant because I haven't watched the 3rd one yet. I'm always saying that I'll watch the movie after I finish the book, but the book has taken me close to eternity to finish. I think I should give up by now and just watch the movie.

We started off by going to Kerrisdale and walking around. Nothing much to see there, it's on the bus route that I usually take to school. I never knew that the area was called Kerrisdale until I was actually there. I didn't even clue in when he said that it was near UBC. I have learned so much from him...

Afterwards we went for dinner at I-Cafe. It was the place we went on our first date. To be honest the food isn't bad, and I would that it is good pricing. I had a bowl of noodles that filled me up so much.

After I-Cafe, we went to Robson (a place that my cousin, Emily suggested that we should go). We then ate ice cream at Mondo Gelato. I like how creative they are with the ice cream flavours. I tried out White Chocolate and Horlick flavour (for those who don't know what Horlick is, it's a type of drink mixed from powder - like hot chocolate). We then walked around for a bit and did some window-shopping.

Since there were a couple more hours left, we decided to just head to Stanley Park and just sit there and chat. I love his company. If we were to just sit and not to anything, I'd still be happy because he's there with me. Sometimes I still can't believe that it's been a year. It's just gone by so fast that sometimes I don't even think about it.

Happy 2006!

Hey there everyone,

I wish everyone of you a Happy New year. I was just reading my last year's resolution. I guess you can say that I have kept my resolution from last year. And I have passed an extreme great year. I can't exactly think of a resolution for this year since I have everything that I can ask for.

May everyone of you have a good life. For those who are going to school, I wish you have good grades. For those who are going to work, I wish you make lots of money. So yeah... this is a pretty random post, but whatever.
